  • I am Abraham Lincoln. The 16th President of the United States
  • Lets make our own party!
  • “Hey! Stop! That’s union property that you’re stealing!”
  • “We don’t care! Let’s go after Fort Sumter!”
  • During the Election of 1860, Abraham Lincoln won the presidency, making many southern states angry and afraid. He also ended up being voted the president of the Republican Party.
  • We should join the war
  • A year later, in 1861, the confederacy was formed by southern states who were outraged from Lincoln winning. The southerners opposed Lincoln’s election because they feared that since he was a republican, he would outlaw slavery in the south, and they didn't want to be forced to stop having slaves. Secession, did not end the dispute between the North and the South and the tense situation would unleash the heat of war.

  • Confederate officials started seizing federal arsenals in the south, but Lincoln declared that the stuff they were stealing were still property of the Union. The confederates wanted to seize fort sumter, south carolina. Lincoln sent essential supplies to fort sumter, but then the confederates bombed them, leading up to the civil war.
  • Black men in the north volunteered to fight, but were turned down by the north. Contraband's, escaped confederate slaves turned up at union camps and offered to help them out. The north soon changed their attitude about having black soldiers and in 1862, was approved by congress to have black soldiers. In 1862, the first Louisiana native guards were formed, and soon later, so was the 54th Massachusetts infantry. Later on, the confederacy tried to recruit soldiers, but very little decided to join
  • Word on the street is that there’s gonna be a war to fight for having slaves or not
  • Mary Elizabeth Bowser was born enslaved, but was later freed due to her master dying When she was young. Later on, she became a spy for the union, while still being a servant for confederate president Jefferson Davis. Nobody assumed that she was feeding vital information from the confederacy to the union.
