Germany surrendered on May 9, 1945. The Allied forces took victory and were deciding how the terms of Germany surrender would take place. That was until Hitler died in a Berlin bunker due to suicide on April 30, 1945. Karl Donitz was given Hitler's rule because of his death and Donitz quickly decided to surrender all German forces.
The US and Soviet Union fought as allies against the Axis Powers during WWII but the Americans were watchful of Soviet's communism and tyrannical rule.
The Manhattan Project was a world war II project to design the first atomic bomb. On December 28, 1942, President Roosevelt gave authorization to form the Manhattan Project. Colonel Leslie R. Groves was chosen to lead the project. Facilities were created in very remote locations all over the country, including New Mexico, Tennessee, and Washington.

The bombing of Hiroshima took place on August 6, 1945. The American B-29 bomber dropped the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima which brutally killed at least 80,000 Japanese citizens. Tens of thousands dies soon after due to radiation exposure.
Just three days after the bombing of Hiroshima, the US dropped a second bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. This bomb ended up killing at least 40,000 people.
Japan surrendered because of the nuclear weapons the US used on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that killed so many citizens. The Emperor Hirohito announced Japan's surrender in a radio broadcast.
