  • Coach, the outside of my knee feels weird. It hurts when I run and I feel this weird clicking.
  • It's been happening for a couple weeks now...
  • Hmm. Maybe you should take a break from practice for the day and rest up. How long has this been going on for?
  • I think we should talk to your parents and see about getting you to a doctor.
  • Oh no! Is it serious? Will I be able to run again?
  • I'll do anything! I just want to run again
  • I'm going to refer you to a physical therapist. I believe they will be able to help you. Until then, ease up on the running. If the pain becomes too much, your mom can give you some ibuprofen
  • Well Stacey, after examining your knee and looking at the MRI results, it looks like you have Iliotibial band syndrome.
  • It's rather common in runners like you with all that repetitive motion. Your IT Band rubs over the side of your knee on your femoral epicondyle and becomes inflamed.

  • Your running form looks great so I don't think that's what is causing you pain.
  • I'm going to teach you some exercises to help strengthen your glute and leg muscles. As well as some stretches. Hopefully this will alleviate your pain
