- In March of 1925, the Butler Act is passed to prohibit the teaching of evolution in school

- This is the trial of John Scopes vs the state of Tennessee.
- John Scopes, a school science teacher, had been accused of teaching evolution. This had been an act to get the town more known.
- Mr. Scopes shall be charged $100
- It had been announced in the local paper the Mr. Scopes, a school science teacher, has violated the butler act by teaching evolution to his students.
- This is just about religious belief.
- The trial was John Scopes vs the state of Tennessee.
- Mr. Scopes was found guilty and fined 100 dollars.
- Today, and even during the trial, it was seen as a fight between government and religion.
