I wake up. My neurons, or nerve cells, are already hard at work.
Clean room
Neurons from my stomach transmit to my brain that I am hungry, so I make some breakfast. In order to do that, my brain has to transmit messages to my hands.
Neurons do so much for us! Everything, really. However, if they are damaged it can be very serious, even fatal. When I fell down the stairs and got a concussion, neurons were damaged.
I had to go to the hospital in order to recover. Since my neurons had been damaged, I had to limit mental and physical activity while they heal.
Once I have recovered, my neurotransmitters can work better again. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is associated with learning, movement, attention, and happiness. Just like when I had fun times on my Grandma's farm as a little girl!
Neurotransmitters often affect our moods, making us sad, happy, and scared. Inbalance of the chemicals (especially serotonin) can lead to depression. Serotonin is what makes me feel sad when I visit Grandpa Bob's grave.
