- Cosette sweeps the floor when the innkeeper's wife mocks her about her miserableness and her mother. She ordered Cosette to fetch some water from the well in the woods while she spoiled her own daughter Eponine in front of her. The poor little girl begs not to send her alone but is sent anyway.
- They sang in a chorus.

- The Thernadiers celebrate along with the dwellers of their inn, but they scam their occupants in truth. They steal baggage and swindle customers in exchange for trashy food made out of the kidney of a horse and the liver of a cat.

- WhileCosette was going to the woods, a man appeared that made her tremble in shock.Later, it showed Valjean and asked her name. He instantly knew who she was andoffered to help her with her bucket, making Cosette feel pleasant. They strollback to the inn, where he tells the Thernardiers that he'll take custody ofCosette as a duty he must heed.
- Will you be like a papa to me?

- Javertenters the scene and asks the innkeepers but is too late to get a hold of the two fleeing to Paris. Fauchevelent, a man Jean rescued before, helped them shelter at Petit-Picpus convent. Valjean works as a gardener, while Cosette attends the convent school.
- Nineyears later, France's large population succumbed to poverty. This led to theworking class's revolution against the government and honor the previousdeparted only leader who had sympathy for the people.

- Meanwhile,the Thernardiers and Valjean come across their paths in the public park whenthe couple tries to scam him, followed by Javert's appearance as the police dueto commotion. Valjean takes Cosette; currently, eye-locked dazzled with Marius.
- Therallying people prepare for Judgment Day, but Marius seems to be in breathlessdelight with the short sight of Cosette. Eagerly waiting to know her addresswith Eponine's help, who is blindly in love with him.
