Salutary Neglect (March 22, 1775)
The Boston tea party was a political protest in response to the british parilments tax on tea by the sons of liberty. As a response, parliment passed the Intolerable acts which prevented sea trade to occur until colonists paid for the damanged tea.
Common Sense (Jan 9th, 1776)
A series of laws passed by the British parliament that aimed to punish the colonists for their defiance after the boston tea party.
An unwritten Unofficial policy allowing North American colonies to be left on their own without British interference.
Published by Thomas Paine, the pamphlet Common Sense was written in favor of American independance. Because it inspired Americans to see themselves as citizens of a seperate country rather than british colonists, this pamphlet played a big part in the start of the Revolution.
