Hi kids. Today we will be going to four different places to learn about gravity. Gravity has four parts creep, mudslides, slump, and landslides.
Creep is very slow downhill movementof rock and soil. It usually happens from freezing and thawing of water in cracked layers of rock beneath the soil.
It ranges from half a centimeter to as much as 10 cm per year.
Mudslides occur when a mixture of water, rock, and soil rapidly move downhill. Occur in dry areas after a heavy rain. It can move up to 35 MPH
How much destruction can it cause?
Slump is a mass of rocks and soil suddenly slip down a slope. Unlike a landslide, a slump moves down in one large mass.
Even though creep happens very slowly, it can move large amounts of material over a long period of time.
Landslides occur when rock and soil slide quickly down a steep slope. It's the most destructive.
Gravity erosion can be very dangerous and it can cause a lot of damage. Some ways to prevent it is to plant crops and build retaining walls. Also you can put down more mulch and rocks.
