After reading and watching the presentation about Gina, I have been enlightened and motivated to learn more to help and support people like Gina.
…”there is nothing wrong with her, “so what if she can not speak or walk…” - Gina's GrandmaGina's Grandma was positive and truly made Gina smile
I am impressed that Gina's parents/family accepted and provided love for Gina. Through positivity, Gina has learned and improved  listening and regulation skills.
But I do have questions. 1. If I am a teacher, do I also need to know medical terms?2. What are ways I can spread awareness as a teacher?
Another example is the usage of social media. Create an Instagram and then post announcements for parents to be informed.
Gina's parents were able to voice their opinions on what was best for their child. As a teacher we should encourage parents to use their voices. For example: Because technology is expanding, the usage of apps, such as GroupMe will not only connect with the teacher, but parents can send a message and express their thoughts. The teacher can listen and intake the information.
Communicating with parents are key. For instance: email. The usage of email is quick and convenient. It is also a way for the teacher to send updates to the parent on their child's progress.
What would happen if a parent can not attend Parent/Teacher conference? Nothing because the backup plan for parents to connect with the teacher is through ZOOM. With effort and planning, meeting with the parents virtually is a great alternative.
It is important to remember that working with parents are essential to understand and provide the best education for their child.
It is also important that  connecting with parents can open a social capital of peer support, friends, family and the community.
