Storyboard Text

  • Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1958). Composed and Orchestrated by Bernard Herrmann. Conducted by Kurt Graunke performed by the Münchner Symphoniker (Munich Symphony Orchestra / Graunke Symphony Orchestra).
  • Outside/In editing - The traditional editing pattern in which the editor begins with an establishing shot of the new setting - to help the audience get its bearings
  • Close up shot of cloven hoof prints in the sand
  • Men following footprints and a panning technique is utilized
  • Close-up of cave with Mask above it and another establishing shot
  • Medium shot - of the face and waist of characters also the eyes and heads of the characters are tilted upward to allow the audience to see how big the cave is from an objective point of view
  • Close-up of Cave as men look small marching towards the cave

  • In stop motion, the model of the cyclops has to be manipulated for each movement and shot
  • We see the model of the cyclops has been moved closer to the rock and his head turned and arms and body stance has been manipulated...even the facial expressions
  • The actor has to pretend that he is looking at a massive creature...we see the fear on the actors face as if he is truly going to be crushed by this giant cyclop hooved foot
  • Expression shot to show the sheer fear and panic as he is crushed up against the rock
  • Angry cyclops with rock over his head throwing it towards the barrier and it lands in the water to over throw the boat of sailors and the magician
  • Parallel Editing is utilized to show the audience the men in the boat as they believe they are safe from the Cyclops and also the angry cyclops behind the barrier throwing a rock to the boat to sink it
  • Head shot of magician flaring his arms in the water drowning
  • In this scene the cyclop is shown in the water with a half shot; particially emerged in the water searching for the genie lamp that he knows the magician has dropped
  • we see how the cyclops hands are grasped tightly around the lamp as he covets the powers of the genie lamp for himself
