Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,

Internal Rhyme

Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

Repetition

Alliteration

In this scene Edgar is bored and depressed because the love of his life has died. He is grieving her and obsessing about her death, feeling worthless. (Stanza 1 Line 1)

Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil!—prophet still, if bird or devil!—
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,

In this scene Edgar finds nothing behind the door so he just stares into the darkness he starts assuming, getting lost in the darkness. He starts doubting himself, wondering if the sounds are real or if he is going crazy. He thought he heard tapping but there was nothing behind the door.

(Stanza 5 Line 1 and 2)

In this scene Edgar gets mad with the raven and starts screaming at him and calls him prophet he is debating wether the bird is just a bird, or if he is the devil itself. He thinks he is the devil because he feels like the raven is torturing him or mocking him. He thinks Satan sent him or a storm brought him. The bird does nothing he stays still while Edgar shouts at him.

(Stanza 15 Line 1 and 2)
