  • CAUSE
  • NATURAL CAUSE
  • CAUSE
  • Fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal are burnt to generate energy for transportation, manufacturing and electricity production. However, the process of burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and is the main source of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • EFFECT-ON THE ENVIRONMENT
  • The Earth's orbital change can also affect the Earth's climate. The Earth's orbit changes from circular to elliptical. When the Earth's orbit is circular, the Earth's temperature is likely to increase, as the Earth is now closer to the sun. When the Earth's orbit is elliptical, the Earth's temperature is likely to decrease as the Earth is now further away from the Sun.
  • EFFECT-ON HUMANS
  • Trees absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis. Therefore, clearing trees results in less carbon dioxide being removed from the atmosphere. This is worsened by the burning of fossil fuels, which also release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
  • EFFECT-ON THE ENVIRONMENT
  • Warmer global temperatures will cause glaciers and ice sheets to melt, leading to rising sea levels and the loss of polar habits.
  • As global temperatures rise, people in already hot regions will be at increased risk of developing heat-related health problems.
  • Rising sea levels will result in low-lying coastal areas flooding more frequently or even becoming permanently submerged in water.
