Storyboard Text

  • There is a variation in the grasshopper population, the variation consists of the color of grasshoppers. Some of the grasshoppers are green in color and some are brown.
  • When the birds are looking and hunting for food, they go for the brown color grasshoppers because they are easier to see and catch. The green grasshoppers have to beneficial trait, because they blend in with the environment better than the brown grasshoppers do.
  • This is the remaining amount of grasshoppers in the population after the predators came though, clearly showing that more of the green survived than the brown. This is showing natural selection, by the fact that the color of the grass was green, and the green grasshoppers blended in better. There was nothing that the brown grasshoppers could have done about it, meaning that it would be a result of natural selection.
  • There has been and environment change, causing the ground to no longer be green, instead it is now brown. There is still more green grasshoppers at this point, because there was just recently the change in environment, and no predators have came through yet.
  • The grasshoppers reproduced, and now there is a larger population of the brown grasshoppers. This is because of the fact that the predators can now more easily spot the green grasshoppers so that what they are taking to eat.
  • Since the environment changed, the brown grasshoppers now have the beneficial trait, because they can not be spotted as easily as the green grasshoppers. This again is showing natural selection occurring because there is nothing for the green grasshoppers to do, to change what the environment is doing.
