- Douglass was somewhat good friends with Lincoln. They had only spoken a few times, but in those conversations, it was a joyful talk.

- Doug had attended Lincoln's second inauguration on the morning of March 4th, 1865 with over 30,000 spectators at the US Capitol.
- ¨Are orders are to admit to no person of color!¨
- When Doug went to try and congratulate Lincoln personally, at the White House door, he was stopped by two policemen who grabbed Him by the arm and ordered him to stand back.
- A month later, the Civil war had ended. Five days later, Lincoln sat watching a play with his wife at Ford's Theater in Washington, he was shot in the head and died the next morning.
