- Hey Antonio, can I borrow 3000 ducats from you so I can travel to Belmont to marry Portia
- I would give you 3000 ducats but all of my money is in merchandise at sea, how about I co-sign a loan from another moneylender
- Bassanio asks his best friend, Antonio, if he can borrow money to travel to Belmont so he can try to marry Portia. Antonio redirects him to another moneylender because he has no tangible money at the moment

- Hey Shylock, I have a friend who needs money so I am going to co-sign a loan of 3000 ducats for him.
- Yes, I can give 3000 ducats only if, you pay me back in 3 months and if you do not then I must take a pound of your flesh.
- Shylock agrees to the bond but he wants to be payed back within three months otherwise he is legally entitled to take one pound of Antonio's flesh

- Antonio and Shylock go to a notary to get the bond legalized, and this is so that if Antonio doesn't give the 3000 ducats after three months that he legally has to give Shylock one pound of his flesh.
