Lin joins the party
Mao proceeds to attack the current leadership in order to gain his power back. He starts what's known as the Chinese cultural revolution.

Mao shut down the nation's schools and gathered young students to form a group called the red guards. They fully supported Mao and expanded through china's mainland. They attacked senior citizens and pushed for a communist country.
Lin goes down
Lin became an impactful force in the cultural revolution. Mao assigned him to send army troops to restore order after the death of president Liu Shoaqi. But Lin had other plans and did his own thing.
Urban members of the red guards were forced into rural environments and the movement went downhill. The economy had gone down and dropped 12%.
After Lin pushed to do his own thing, he instituted martial law with the excuse of border clashes with soviet troops. This made Mao push away from him with the help from Zhou Enlai. However, Lin died in a plane crash trying to escape the Soviet Union.
