- In order to slow down the westward expansion of the British colonies, the French provoked the war by building forts in the Ohio River Valley. This immediately angered the British.
- Alright my fellow troops. We must build some forts!
- In response to this chain of forts, the Governor of Virginia sent George Washington, who would later become president, and a small army of men to stop the French. However, Washington's army surrendered as the French opponents were too strong.
- Stop right there!
- We surrender
- Benjamin Franklin came up with the Albany Plan of Union to create an intercontinental government and recruit troops. This plan was denied because the colonies were not willing to lose their taxation powers. However, the plan set an example for future revolutionary congresses.
- Colonists! Today I propose to you the Albany Plan of Union!
- Behind the scenes, William Pitt (British prime minister) focused on conquering Canada and other territories. The victories in these places led to the Peace of Paris in 1763, which ultimately ended the war. Due to the terms of the treaty, there were many territorial shifts among Britain, France, and Spain.
- Haha! You lost! Now let us come to an agreement and sign this peace treaty.
- As a result of the growing desire for westward expansion by the Europeans, the Native Americans refused to give up land and orchestrated a revolt by burning down colonies from New York to Virginia. This uprising was led by Chief Pontiac and was called the Pontiac's Rebellion.
- My fellow Indians, we must stop this nonsense and prevent more losses! Burn it all down!
- To stabilize the hostility between Native Americans and the British, the government issued the Proclamation of 1763. This document prevented colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. However, this actually angered the colonists and many settled westward anyways.
