Problems Faced by the Soldiers #2

Training with Baron Fredrick von Steuben

The Winter at Valley Forge lasted from December 19, 1777, to June 19 1778. it was a winter quarters for George Washington's continental army.

George Washington's living quarters were much different than the soldiers. They more like a house and it was called "The Isaac Pots house". It was more fancy and housed by him and others.

The soldiers quarters were not very fancy, they were just log cabins with multiple men in each.

There was lots of disease and plague spreading around the camp due to poor sanitation and caused over two thirds of the army to die.

Another problem the soldiers faced was poor supply of food, most men were living off of low food and empty stomachs barely filled with plain stews or "firecake".

Frederick von steuben changed the course of the whole winter, and the war. He was recruited by the congress from Paris and helped train and progressively train the whole army into equal par with the british. He also changed the setup of the camp, to be safer, more sanitary, and more effective.
