Timothy's old body could not handle the force of the hurricane. His breath becomes shallow. He tells Philip to be strong and that he can take care of himself. He makes Philip memorize the GPS coordinates so he can keep using the radio to call out for help.
Philip buries Timothy and uses stones to mark his grave. The emergency radio starts to make noise. Philip tries to answer it, but he cannot see the buttons. He pushes whatever he can find and hopes someone can hear him call for help. He relays the GPS coordinates over and over again in hopes that someone will get them.
The next day Philip hears a ship whistle, and the radio starts to make noise. Philip waves his arms around wildly and yells for help. He grabs the radio and calls out. Someone responds that they see him. Philip and Stew cat are about to be rescued!
Philip and Stew are rescued. Philip is reunited with his parents. He gets surgery that restores his sight. Philip keeps Stew cat as his pet and his parents sponsored a library in their local school. They named it Timothy's Hall in honor of the man who cared for Philip and who taught him that friendship knows no color.
