- The town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania is home to the weather forecasting groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil.
- During World War II, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles merged for the 1943 season to become the Steagles. This was due to the loss of players who were fighting in the war.
