- Jamestown
- The first English settlement, Jamestown, is established, mainly as an economic venture in search of gold and minerals. Life was not easy, and many of them starved to death within the first few years.
- Slide: 2
- Declaration of Independence
- Virginia native, Thomas Jefferson, writes the Declaration of Independence. This was the official document that colonial representatives used to declare independence from Great Britain.
- Slide: 3
- Becoming a State
- Virginia became a state on June 25, 1788.
- Virginia becomes the 10th state admitted into the Union on June 25, 1788.
- Slide: 4
- The Civil War
- The Civil War begins. Over half of the battles are fought on Virginia soil, and the final battle is fought in Appomattox County, Virginia.

- The Pentagon
- Construction of the Pentagon, the U.S. Department of Defense headquarters, was completed. It was constructed on an accelerated schedule, in less than two years, during World War II.
