My First Time With Braces

- Imagine getting your first braces at age 9. It is something new that you had not heard. You will feel anxious and nervous. Or so I felt when they told me I would have to use them. I didn't know what to say but I knew that some things would change.
- It's ok!
- I'm not ready!
- Good Afternoon, we are here for the appointment of Maelis Marrero
- My father accompanied me when I was going to put them on, I only though if at the end of all this I could eat well. My hands are sweaty and trembling as if I was going to give a 3 hour speech in front of a thousand people.
- Of course, sit down and we'll call her in a few minutes.
- I know, it may be a bit exaggerated, but that's how I felt at the time. So I tried to distract myself with the TV with a funny video program. After a few minutes they called me and the nerves returned again. This time my heart was beating too fast as if it wanted to get out of my chest.

- When I entered the room, I lay down on the chair and suddenly I was sleepy because of how comfortable the chair was. As the orthodontist's assistant, she saw me nervous and told me that I can choose the color of the braces. She showed me the colors and chose the pink one, and I calmed down a bit.
- Hi, how are you?Ready to have perfect teeth!
- This bothers me!
- It's ok, girl, we done!
- Well, she will have them for two years... and that's all
- The process took about an hour and a half, I was tired and my mouth ached from having it open for too long. I wanted to get out of there and go home, and be un my bed curled up like a wintering bear. Later I had loose teeth and couldn't eat because of the pain.
- I see you the next month
- This hurts me!
- This experience taught me that I have to take care of my teeth and be aware of it. Maintain them and have good hygiene.
- You will get used to it and you will forget that you have them
