The five regions of the United States all have many things that make them unique. Although the Southwest is only made up of four states, they are very large. The Southwest region is known for its vast deserts, delicious food, the Grand Canyon, and rich culture. Let’s learn all about what makes the Southwest so unique!

The culture of the Southwest is heavily influenced by the Spanish, Mexican, and Native American people who live there.

  • Long ago, Texas gained freedom from Mexico. One of the battles took place at the Alamo, which is now a symbol of freedom in Texas. Mexican and Spanish culture is still very alive in the Southwest.
  • The Southwest has more Native Americans than any other region. Many live on reservations and follow the traditional culture and way of life. The largest tribe in the Southwest is the Navajo (Diné).
  • The food in the Southwest is often very spicy. Some of the favorites are chili, tacos, nachos, tamales, and flan.
