  • American singer/songwriter Beyonce was born in Houston, Texas on September 4, 1981. She was raised in Houston and performed in many singing and dancing competitions there as a child.
  • The capital city of Texas is Houston. Other large cities include Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, El Paso, and Fort Worth.
  • Texas' state nickname is the Lonestar State. Its motto is simply "Friendship." Texas comes from the word "tejas", which is the Caddo word for "friend."
