- In chapter 5 the nazis and the Judenrat's came into every flat and asked for all their valuables. When they came to Yanek's flat they pounded on the door but no one got up to let them in and they said they would kick it down but they opened it for them and they saw people with blood dripping being dragged. That's when Yanek said where all the valuable stuff is and got really scared. They took everyone's valuables so they had nothing to spare and were broke so people stole other dead people's flats and extra items.
- In chapter 10 the nazis in the concentration camp sent a whole bunch of people to Yanek's old town to clean everything. When Yanek got there he explored his building thinking of all the memories. When he was exploring he went into Mr. Tatarka's flat and he saw his decomposing body by the chair he stole from the Immerglicks. He went back into the hall because of the smell and sight of Mr. Tatarka's body. Then while he was crying and throwing up he ran upstairs to the pigeon coop where he had many better memories.
- In chapter 13 all the Jews were brought to a salt mine to get salt, they got a tour and saw where they would be working. During the tour, they recognized a person that was a Kapo in Krakow that took everyone away and took their valuables. Other people from Krakow recognized him too and got very angry and wanted him dead. While they were working the next day the Nazis saw a pickaxe hit him and killed him. The Nazis got very confused about why they would kill someone on their own side but he didn't care because it was less work for them.
