Andy is stabbed by a member of his rival gang, the Guardians, for being a Royal. He bleeds out on the sidewalk and attempts to call out for help when he realizes he can't yell. He denies that he is dying, and distracts himself with his thoughts.
Andy assumes that this will just be like all the other times he's encountered a gang member, and continues laying down, listening to sounds around him. He mindlessly worries about what Laura must be doing, and wondered if she had missed him yet (Hunter 1).
As he hears footsteps, Andy sees a drunk man stumble into the alleyway. The man assumes Andy had fallen from being drunk himself, and offers to call the police, but changes his mind when he realizes they would get caught. The man leaves without helping Andy.
A couple, Angela and Freddie, run to take shelter from the rain in the alleyway. They only take notice of Andy when he grunts in pain. Freddie sees him bleeding out, then sees his jacket that marks him as a Royal. They decide to not help him because they fear the Guardians might hurt them for helping their rival.
Andy finally realizes that he is, in fact, dying, and that no one will help him because he's a Royal. Andy realizes that he will never see Laura, won't have a future at all because of how much his identity mattered to him. He tries to make off his jacket as the last thing he does before he dies, because he wanted to be known as just Andy and not a Royal.
By the time Laura finds Andy in the alley, it's too late to save him. She calls over a police officer anyways, who, like all the others, couldn't see Andy as anything more than the identity of his jacket.
HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME!
That's for you Royal! (Hunter 1).
They got me good that time... (Hunter 1).
Does she miss me? Is she angry at me?
Laura...
He heard footsteps at the other end of the alley (Hunter 2).
He could hear the faint sound of music now... (Hunter 1).
He could hear the sound of automobile tires hushed on the rain swept streets (Hunter 1).
Did you fall down buddy? (Hunter 2).
Please call a cop...
Freddie, let's get out of here! Please! (Hunter 5).
He's a Royal...I don't wanna get mixed up in this...I'm sorry (Hunter 5).
I want to be Andy (Hunter 6).
A Royal, huh? (Hunter 7).
His name is Andy (Hunter 7).
