Storyboard Text

  • After Zahra, the deputy chief of staff for the president, finds out Alex and Henry are seeing each other. Alex makes her a promise to tell his mom, the President of the United States, Ellen. Alex sits down with his mother to talk. He tells her what his sexuality is and that he is seeing someone. (On pages 235 & 236)
  • "Okay, I've been, um, I've been figuring some stuff out about myself, lately. And... I wanted to let you know because you're my mom, and I want you to be a part of my life, and I don't want to hide things from you. And it's, um, relevant to the campaign, from image perspective" (235).
  • "Okay" (235).
  • "Okay, All right. Um. So, I've realized I'm not straight. I'm actually bisexual" (235).

  • Ellen is supporting of Alex and relieved that is only it. Her emotions shift after Alex slowly and carefully explains to her that he has been seeing the Prince of Whales, Henry. She pauses before canceling her schedule for the afternoon, then proceeds to practically tell him to meet her in an hour. (On page 236)
  • At 2 P.M multiple cartons of Chinese food and a presentation were assembled on the First Floor West Wing. The opening slide of the presentation Alex's mother had created was labeled 'Sexual Experimentation with Foreign Monarchs: A Gray Area'. Slides after that get even more embarrassing, Alex starts wishing for a 'sweet release' from the situation. (On page 237)
  • "Okay. Before we start, I- I want to be clear, I love you and support you always. But this is, quite frankly, a logistical and ethical clusterf!ck, so we need to make sure we have our ducks in a row. Okay? "(237).
  • Ellen allows her son to keep seeing Henry but warns Alex that this is a BIG deal. She proceeds to ask him if this relationship is forever. The question stuns Alex and makes him uneasy about what the word, forever, means to him and his future. (On page 238)
  • Alex has been working on his mother's campaign for the election. He values the job because he wants a future in politics. Alex tries to protest his mother's decision but she tells him "You're way too close to the sun". (On page 238 and 239)
  • "Also. I am sorry to do this, sugar. But you're off the campaign" (238).
  • "Okay, thanks, Mom!!" (239).
  • After getting kicked of the campaign, Alex goes to his room and starts emailing Henry. He tells Henry about how sad he is about getting 'the boot' from the campaign. He talks about Alexander Hamilton's letters to John Laurens. He writes in the email, "History, huh? Bet we could make some." (On pages 239, 240, and 241)
