Cesar was born March 31, 1927 to Libardo and Juana Chavez. his father owned a farm, grocery store, garage, and pool hall till the great depression hit, his parents were forced to become migrant farmers
During WWII, Chavez served in the U.S. Navy, returned to farming, married Helen Fabela, raised children, and founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962.

Cesar dropped out of school in the 8th grade because he and his parents had to constantly move to find work since.
Chavez gained fame after addressing migrant grape pickers in Delano, California, leading a strike and hunger strike, which ended in 1970, and merging the NFWA with the AFL-CIO.
