- 2001 in afghanistan, Amir received a phone call from his fathers friend Rahim Khan. He tells him that he needs to come back to Pakistan because there is a way to be good again. They go back and see their old servant Ali and their servants son Hassan. Amir's father Baba is very successful and he looks up to him and hopes to prove himself to him one day. Then Amir sees a local kite competition that he can prove himself in.

- Hassan who is Amir's father servants son is very loyal to Amir. He is also very good at flying kites, one of the best people where he lives. They had a kite flying competition and Amir was very jealous of Hassan's kite flying abilities . Amir ended up winning and Hassan went after the last kite which had flown away. Amir chases after him and saw he was with the local bullly Assef. After a little while Amir saw Hansson get raped by Asseff.

- Later Amir is ashamed of not helping Hannsan and avoids him and starts being rude. Amir frames Hansen for stealing Babas watch, which resulted in hansan leaving. Soon after Amir and Baba go to california and Amir graduates high school and gets married to a girl named Soraya. Baba soon dies of lung cancer and Amir and Soraya find out they are unable to have children

- Amir goes back to Afghanistan with his wife and later figures out that Hanssen had a child that is in an orphanage because Hassan also died. Amir decided to get Hassan's child Sohrab and after picking him up Amir was beat up by Assef , but got away with Sohrab.

- Amir takes Sohrab back to america with hm but doesnt think he can handle him right now so he bring up the conversation of going back to an orphanage in Peshawar with him. Sohrab gets very upset and ends up trying to commit suicide. Amir found him and rushed him to the hospital. He was saved but still upset with Amir

- Amir takes Sohrab back to America and decides to raise him with him and his wife. Sohrab is still upset with Amir and wont talk to him for the time being. Until one day Amir takes him to go fly kites and they bonded and Sohrab started speaking to him again.
