Hello there. My name's Mieyanwi and I'm going to tell you about how the U.S Constitution was formed.
It all started after the war of independence with great Britain , the colonies looked for the best way to govern their new nation. They created the Articles of confederation, which distributed power among the states, leaving the central government little power to solve problems between the states.
Without a strong government, America faced many difficulties. Seeing the need for change, the leaders though of revising the Articles of Confederation, but they saw that revising the Articles was not enough. As a result, the Constitutional Convention was met in Philadelphia in 1787 to write a new plan of government, a document that became the US Constitution
At the convention, 55 delegates (also known as the ''framers'') representing all 13 states except Rhode Island, came up with a plan to make a stronger federal government.
After serious debate which went on throughout the summer of 1787, they developed a plan that found three branches of national government which are the executive, legislative and judicial branches. A system of checks and balances was placed so that no branch would have too much power.
On September 17, George Washington was the first to sign the document. 39 out of 55 delegates signed the document as well. In order for the Constitution to become a law, it had to be made legal by nine out of the 13 states. And that's how the U.S Constitution was formed.
