- Here, we grow sugar cane as a cash crop. Sugar is King!
- As a plantation owner, I have a reputation to uphold! As my slaves, Make me money you filthy lazy Africans.
- It is my duty as Head Driver to keep an eye on you.
- I hate working in the fields. I'm tired , hungry and thirsty. I cannot even take a break with this overseer and head driver breathing down my back.
- I'm the Overseer, don't make me whip you. Stop talking and work!
- I am a hired slave. i came to this plantation next to my master plantation to work on this cotton field. It is difficult, but I will get some money to help manumit myself one day.
- I pray one day to be free from this.
- I'm a Toby and I am 6 years old. Some days I am happy, today I am sad. ,I have to feed the chickens and do some weeding later today. I am so tired.
