A Case Study of Truth
o = 70ft
a = 5ft
Leon was found dead in front of his condominium around 7:00 in the evening. It was a gloomy Friday when the incident happened. To start the investigation, the police measured the height and the distance of the rooftop to the body. The height of the building is measured as 70 feet while the distance of the building from the body horizontally is 5 feet. To calculate the angle of inclination, the police used inverse tan. Tan-1(70/5) so the angle is around 86 degrees.

While investigating, the police found a knife in the crime scene. However, the object was void of any traces that could be used for forensics so the police measured the distance of the knife from the victim’s position.
The height from the hand to the feet was 2ft and the angle of the hand facing the knife was at 34°. Using Tan(34)=2/a,the police found that the distance of the knife from the victim was 1.35 ft., which draws a possible conclusion that the knife must have bounced off the hand due to the collision from falling.

The detective will now close the case and rule it as suicide when a testifier said that his drone caught a masked man killing the victim. When the detective checked the surveillance, he estimates that the drone is 8 feet away horizontally from the suspect and the angle of inclination between the both of them is 35 degrees.
The detective wants to find out how high the drone flew at that time. To find the value, he uses tangent. Tan(35°) = o/8 so the height of the flying drone is around 6 feet.

With the evidence provided by a witness, the case has shifted from a suicide case to murder. The suspect was later found to be the victim's neighbor and was immediately arrested.
