- Jackson won the presidential election of 1828 against Adams
- That's right! I only lost that last election because it was a corrupt bargain!

- Once Jackson won, he worked to extend voting rights to more people
- Now all white men can vote, not only just rich white men with special rights!

- He got a lot of backlash from citizens because he used the Spoils System (which is giving friends or family government jobs that maybe aren't the best fit for the job
- Around 1831, Jackson formed the Kitchen Cabinet. This was an unofficial advisory group made of people close to Jackson

- The Tariff of Abominations was a tax on any foreign imported goods imposed by Jackson to protect the industry in the Northen states, but the Southern states called it unconstitutional because it made living there more expensive

- Andrew Jackson finally closes the National Bank which he didn't like from the very beginning because only 1/5 of the money went to the government and the rest went straight to the rich's pocket

- The Trail of Tears was set off by the Indian Removal Act in 1838. The Indians living in the East were forced to move West on a long 1,200 miles over rugged land. About 16,000 Indians embarked and 4,000 died.
