- The story takes place in a village in Japan with the wise old woman, the young farmer, and the young lord who rules the village.
- Climax
- Do my tasks or I will take over!
- The young lord has a rule that anyone older than 71 years old will be sent to the mountains to die, because the young lord had no use for them.
- Falling Action
- How am I going to 1,000 ropes of ash?
- The wise old woman turns 71 years old and the young farmer doesn't want to send her to the mountains to die so he hides her in a hole under the kitchen for two years
- Resolution
- Old people are wise now they can live.
- My mother helped me with the tasks.
- Lord Higa threatens to take over the village if the wise men don't solve three imposible tasks.
- The young farmer goes home to tell his mom about the imposible tasks and then she tells him how to solve the tasks, and then he tells the young lord how to solve the tasks.
- Why that is not such an imposible task.
- The young farmer tells the young lord that his mom was helping with the tasks, and then he found out thayt old people are wise and they don't have to go to the mountains anymore.
