As you can see to have a sustainable envioment for the fox their need to be more foxes than squirells in Hillsborough.
Predator-prey relationships paly a big role in the reason there are a lot more squirrels than foxes in Hillsborough. so first of all in this situation, the fox is the predator and the squirrels are the prey meaning the fox eats the squirrel for food. for a predetor prey relationship to work, there needs to be more predators than prey. because for the predator population to rise there needs to be a rise in the prey first. so the foxes depend on the squirrels. which means the squirrels can be a limiting factor for foxes. This is why their needs to be more squirrels than foxes to have a sustainable enviorment.

Carrying capacity is very important to an ecosystem and can increase and decrease for many reasons. If a population exceeds its carrying capacity it can harm the environment because there is not enough resources to provide for more than that population's carrying capacity. Carrying capacity is the limit of organisms a population can have without harming the environment. You can find the carrying capacity by seeing if there is a fluctuation of organisms within a population and taking the number in between that fluctuation and that is the carrying capacity. in Hillsborough squirrels have a higher carring capacity because they have a higher population which means they can have more organisms without harming the resources. So then the fox will have a lower carrying capacity due to their population being smaller. also limiting factors can impact a populations carrying capacity.
