- "They didn't hurt you too bad, did they?" (pg7)
- "Listen, kiddo, when Darry hollers at you...he don't mean nothin'. He's just got more worries than somebody his age ought to. Don't take him serious ...you dig, Pony? Don't let him bug you. He's really proud of you 'cause you're so brainy...he loves you a lot"(pg17)
- "I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you." (pg57)
- In chapter 1 as Ponyboy is walking out alone out of the movies, he sees some Socials following him in a red Corvair. And after the red Corvair pulls next to him and jumps Ponyboy. After some time Ponyboy sees Darry. Darry asks if Ponyboy is alright and also asks "They didn't hurt you too bad, did they?"(pg7) This shows when Ponyboy sees Darry at first, and Darry cares for Ponyboy and asks if they hurt him baldly.

- As ponyboy went to his bed Sodapop came and had jumped into his Ponyboy's bed at that time, Ponyboy remembered the things that socials had told him and shivered. Sodapop saw it and asked if he was cold, Ponyboy lied and said he was kind of cold. After Sodapop said "Listen, kiddo, when Darry hollers at you...he don't mean nothin'. He's just got more worries than somebody his age ought to. Don't take him serious ...you dig, Pony? Don't let him bug you. He's really proud of you 'cause you're so brainy...he loves you a lot."(pg17) This scene shows how Sodapop is telling Ponyboy that Darry loves Ponyboy.
- "He gave me this letter and half of his pay check to give you. Kid, you ought to see Darry. He's takin' this might hard..."(pg81)
- As Ponyboy wakes up he's in disbelief that Johnny killed a social. After Johnny says to Ponyboy "I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you." (pg57) This picture shows how Johnny is explaining that he was worried about Ponyboy being drowned
- "Stay gold, ponyboy. Stay gold..." (pg148)
- After Johnny kills the Social, Ponyboy and Johnny decide to go and find Dally and ask him if he can help them. After they tell Dally everything about what had happened Dallys goes and get a gun and a rolls of bills and says "the gun's loaded"(pg60) This scene shows when Dally is giving them the weapon and how Dally care so much about them that he could get gotten arested for giving it to them.
- When Dallas goes and visits both Johnny and Ponyboy, Dallas says that Sodapop sent Ponyboy a letter and he says that "He gave me this letter and half of his pay check to give you. Kid, you ought to see Darry. He's takin' this might hard..."(pg81) This show the scene where Ponyboy and Dally care so much about Ponyboy that Sodapop paid Darry half of his paycheck just for Dally to give the letter to Ponyboy.
- After the rumble, Ponyboy and Dally decide to go and visit Johnny in the hospital and they go and tell him how they won the rumble against the Socials and as Johnny starts to die his last words are "Stay gold, ponyboy. Stay gold..." (pg148) This scene shows how Ponyboy and Dally cared so much about Johnny that they go and visit him at the hospital as he is slowing dying.
