Evolution of family relationships: In chapter 1 Ponyboy talks about his two brothers Darry (Darrel) and Soda. Then he talks about his relationship with them and also talks about the Greasers and how their his family towards him. Ponyboy's gang was called the Greasers because they put a lot of oil in their hair.
Rich vs. Poor: In chapter 1 Ponyboy talks about the Greasers being poorer and the Socs (Socials) being more wealthier , having better clothes and are rich in general. Then the Greasers being poor, wearing only white T-shirts and jeans and just not as rich as the Socs.
Violence: In Chapter 5 the Socs jump Ponyboy and Johnny and brutally beat up johnny to were he is nearly dead then as the Socs are drowning Ponyboy Johnny stabs Bob.
Innocence: In chapter 10 Pony and Johnny went to grab a drink with Darry. They saw a church burning and Johnny goes in to get the children out. But then Johnny died from the severe injuries from the fire. Johnny was innocent and shouldn't have died even though he killed Bob, he shouldn't have died because he did that to save Ponyboy.
Honor: In chapter 10 Dally was so upset about Johnny's death he went to rob a grocery store in honor for Johnny, but carried a gun that wasn't loaded in which he was shot by a cop and died.
Isolation: In chapter 12 Ponyboy felt sad and was thinking about Johnny and saw Johnny's book. Ponyboy opened the book and there was a letter from Johnny. Ponyboy read the letter and then wrote an English essay about the Greasers as poor and wild then their rival gang Socs who were rich and wealthy people.
