“Lyddie glared straight into the bear’s eyes, daring him to step forward into the caping Then when the ladder was silent and she could hear the slight rustling above her as the family settled themselves on the straw mattresses, she backed up to the ladder and, never taking her eyes off the bear, inched her way up to the loft.” (pg. 2)
Person vs. Society
“It’s a lot of money,” he said gently. “I’d be tempted myself if I were you.” . . ."Thank you." (pg. 42)
She could feel herself go hot and red. “But I won’t,” she said fiercely. “Now I know you, I couldn’t ever.” (pg. 42)
Person vs. Person
“She hung the unused snowshoes in the shed and the lunch bucket in the pantry before she entered the warm kitchen. “So! You’ve decided to honor us with a visit!” The mistress’s face was red with heat or rage. Behind her, Triphena grimaced an apology. She stood in the doorway, trying to frame an excuse or apology, but as usual the works did not come quickly enough to mind. “You’re dismissed!” the woman said.” (pg. 44)
This scene is from when Lyddie has to take control and stare down the bear when the bear came into their house. This example is Person vs. Nature because bears are a part of nature and Lyddie had to stare down a bear that came into their house.
When Lyddie meets Ezekial she is conflicted with Person vs. Society because she had to choose whether to turn him in for a lot of money because he was an African American runaway slave and people would pay a lot of money for runaway slaves or let him go and continue on his journey.
This scene is when Lyddie went back to the farm while the Mistress was away. When Lyddie came back she found the Mistress Lyddie was then fired by the Mistress. I know that this is Person vs. Person because the Mistress was angry at Lyddie for leaving while she was gone.
