Those terrible southerners! They shouldn't have separated your family. Race doesn't determine who your family is, and certainly being together on a plantation doesn't determine that either.
The plantation owner didn't care about any of that. They thought the "family-like" atmosphere was preferred more than freedom.
We had no freedom to any religion we wanted.
I don't understand... how could they do that? The United States was made so that people could have freedom of religion.
Oh wow... even music too. I can't believe it, music is supposed to be joyful. We sing in church, theater, and events. Our musics are 2 different things...
Music was the only way to express our feelings, and even then it wasn't in a singsongy happy way.
Don't even get me started on the work. There was no pay, and we were working against our will on hot sunny days.
Over here we get paid for work, and it's by our choice to work. The South is terrible for this.
Why didn't you just fight back or try to do something?
Slave discipline was harsh... we would get beat or worse, and had no freedom to anything.
And yet after all that the south still supports slavery. Don't worry your life will be better in the North.
