  • Phase 1: 1500-1603 The Early Fur Trade. Both The French & British Fished off the east coast of Canada, Where they met the mikmaq.

  • Phase 2: Expansion Inland (1603-1670. New France was made and the French Traded with the FN Around the great lakes and st. lawrence river.

  • Phase 3: Rival Networks (1670-1760) Britain made the HBC. Now the two countries were both trading with the FN. This meant competition.

  • The Drive West (1760-1821). The North West company took over. Now the two british ones were competeing. They both headed west to be the first to get to the unclaimed trading territory.

  • Phase 5: Monopoly in the West (1821-1870). Britain got the HBC & the NWC To Merge into one compony called the Hudsons Bay company. Which traded all throughout Canada.
