For the rabbits
George and Lennie are wishing to have a farm and some animals on it, especially rabbits for Lennie. They used their imagination during this scene, they are dreaming how life would be in the future.
In this scene Lennie did a really bad thing, he accidentally killed Curley’s wife by being too rough and ultimately broke her neck. He realizes what he has done and starts to freak out. Lennie got worried that George would be mad at him, but on the other hand he remembered what George advised him in case he did a bad thing, so he ran away.
In this scene George found Lennie at the river, and was surprised that George was not mad with him. Then, they start talking about their plan of having a farm and Lennie tending to the rabbits. When George heard the arriving group arriving, he decided to shoot Lennie because he didn't want Lennie to suffer in the future from killing Curley’s wife. He knows that Curly would've punished him very badly.
