The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street theme, mankind is its worst enemy.

  • In "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling, one of the main theme is mankind is its worst enemy. One reason that is, is that on page 76-77 it basically states that when Goodmans car starts on its own the whole entire neighborhood goes against him very easily. This quote explains it all "...As God as my witness...you're letting something begin here that's a nightmare!" Which is meaning that when his car started the people started instantly going against him without any hesitation. Another situation that happend is that when Steve was making a ham radio set and people thought it was a radio to contact the aliens until his wife brought the radio set out to show the neighbors. These quote explains it all "Go ahead Steve. What kind of "radio set" you workin' on? I've never seen it. Neither has anyone else. Who you talking to on that radio set? And who talks to you?" That basically explains that explains that they were suspicious with him. At last my last reason is that when after Charlie shot Pete Van Horn everyone started pointed fingers at eachother which explains that they all have turned on eachother. This all explains my main theme that mankind is its worst enemy.
