- Montag had stayed with a fierce grin as the books were being burnt. He had been neatural with the fact that books were being burnt. His wife, Mildred had been suspected of drinking pills, and with her having earbuds on most of the time and living in a different world, reality had started to hit Montag.
- You took all the pills in your bottle last night.
- After this conversation, and realizing his reality, Montag had felt a sense of loneliness and started to question the outside world.
- I wouldn't do a thing like that.
- What a shame, You're not in love anymore.
- Montag meets Clarisse, a crazy,17-year old girl. She uses a dandelion trick to see if weather he is in love and happy or not.
- As Mr. Faber was concerned about Montag's idea, Montag had started tearing the book apart, which had grabbed his attention.
- Yes, I am!
- Play the man, Master Ridley; we shall this day light such a candle, by God's grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out.
- She said, 'Master Ridley.' She said some crazy things when we came in the door. 'Play the man, she said, Master Ridely. Something , something, something.
- Later, Montag goes home to his wife, Mildred, and questions the rules of the government and the society, feeling a sense of empathy and quilt for the old lady.
- Soon, Montag finds a stash of books hidden in his house. Even though his wife, Mildred is unsure and concerned about whether or not reads the books he reads one anyway. As reading was forbidden in the futuristic society, Beatty tends to knock outside of their house. He spoke the words haltingly and with a terrible self-consciousness. - F451

- All right, all right. I know a man who printed our college paper half a century ago... We might start a few books, and wait on the war to break and pattern and give us the push we need.
- Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles are two of Mildred's friends, who come due to an invitation from Mildred. Montag turns much off to teach them more. That night, Montag had also gone to meet Faber through the subway, to reach his idea of making copies of the Bible. After this conversation, Montag picks up his books and hid them, revealing a new side and new intentions for his mission.
- Silly words, silly words, silly awful hurting words.
- Go home. Go home and think of your first husband divorced and your second husband killed in a jet....
