  • Speaker
  • Poe used descriptive language to describe the setting and place in which the poem is set. Poe described the setting as the kingdom by the sea which creates a clear image and allows the reader to understand and interpret the story clearly.
  • Symbolism
  • The theme of this poem was love. I believe this was the theme as throughout the poem the speaker describes his relationship with Annabel Lee and how much he misses her, blaming her death on the angels.
  • Imagery
  • The speaker was described as a man who was in a relationship with Annabel Lee when she died. Throughout the poem he romanticises over Annabel Lee and blames her death on the angels.
  • Repetition
  • In the poem Poe writes chilling and killing my Annabel Lee which indicates and symbolises that Annabel Lee caught a cold which killed her. Poe described the scenarios in a way which was effective and hooked the reader.
  • Throughout the poem, Poe describes the scenery which allows the reader to create an image in their head as to what the setting looks like. Poe describes the setting as a kingdom by the sea.
  • Poe uses repetition many times throughout the poem. An example of this is the phrase, A kingdom by the sea. This phrase is written multiple times in the poem to ensure the reader has a clear idea as to where the story is set.
