- JImmy is playing basketball. He wonders about the distance of his head to the top of the hoop. He knows that the angle of elevation from himself to the hoop is 30 degrees and the distance of himself from the bottom of the backboard is 4ft.

- Using his math skills he knows that based upon Soh-Cah-Toa he is finding the hypotenuse and since he is already given the angle measure and the adjacent side length he needs to use Cosine. So he follows the equation cos(30)=4/x which is 4/cos(30). He finds that he is about 26 feet from the top of the basketball hoop.

- He takes a few steps and is now 6 feet away from the hoop and the angle of elevation is still 30 degrees. How far away is he from the top of the hoop?

- Using cosine he uses the equation 6/cos(30) using this he now knows he is about 39 feet away from the top of the hoop.
