- It sometimes can be something nobody expected. Irony is the contrast between the way things seem and the way they really are. In this a criminal broke out and robbed the police station. No one would expect it because it is a Police Station and they are supposed to have high security.

- An Idiom is a phrase where the words together have a meaning that is different from the dictionary definitions of the individual words. In this photo she is saying she is gonna break the ice but she doesn't mean literally. She means she wants to make her guests comfortable and break the awkward silence.

- Allusions are an indirect and usually brief reference to a famous person, place, or event. In this photo she is telling her mom to stop being such a Grinch on Christmas day. She is basically taking this reference from The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" because he hated Christmas because he was bullied on Christmas for being different.

- Foreshadowing is the use of clues or hints to suggest events that will occur later in the plot. It is used to build suspense or anxiety in the reader or viewer. In this photo you can't really tell but they are playing spooky music to announce the zombie coming out from the closet.
- Motivation is the reason a character acts, feels and thinks a certain way. In this the girl wasn't feeling so great and it was her prom day and the cat went up to her and showed her his fur colors and she made a dress based on the colors.

- Educated guesses made when you put together information from the text with what you already know. They help a reader understand characters and situations in a story. You can guess that they may become a couple in the end because they both like each other.
