  • Setting and Characters
  • Ben run!
  • Come out and fight me, evil spies!!!
  • Beginning of the Book
  • What is this behind me?
  • I don't know!
  • What is Pinwheel?!
  • Wrong answer!!!
  • The book Spy School by Stuart Gibbs is about a 12 year old boy named Ben Ripley who has a normal and boring life until a man named Alexander Hale (who is the best spy in the world) appears in his house, and gives him the opportunity of a lifetime to be a spy for the CIA (a place that Ben has been dreaming of going to for a very long time). He would have to attend a Spy School first before being able to become a spy. Ben accepts getting ready for his new, luxurious life, but when he gets there, he sees that Spy School isn't luxurious, it's dangerous. Apparently, there is a mole who wants to get Ben. Later, Ben finds out the only reason he is there is as bait for the mole. He later learns that if he wants to survive in Spy School, he has to forget about why he is there and capture the mole.
  • Middle of the Book
  • Ben arrives at Spy School to find that Spy School is under attack. So, he runs inside Spy School to take cover and meets a pretty girl, that smelled like lilacs and gunpowder, and was the best spy in Spy School named Erica. While running from the evil spies, Erica shows Ben around Spy School, and Ben learns that Spy School is not only dangerous, but it is huge! It has hundreds of rooms, and the dormitories aren't that great. They are small and uncomfortable. Later, Ben and Erica meet a bunch of evil spies. Erica holds them back while Ben runs to the principal's office. Soon after, the principal walks in. Later in the story, Ben learns that the principal is stupid and doesn't remember anything. He later finds out this was all a test. Afterwards, he is escorted to his room where a bully named Chip threatened to hurt Ben if he didn't help him hack into the school's computer. A kid named Murray took Chip down, and became great friends with Ben. Murray is a bad spy (more like pretends to be a bad one). He was held back 1 year, and doesn't want to become a spy.
  • End of the Book
  • I should have known it was you the whole time Murray!
  • Finally, you're here!
  • After Ben's scary encounter with Chip, Ben decides to go to dinner in the mess hall with his new friend Murray. After dinner, Ben went to sleep only to wake up a few minutes later to an assassin holding a gun up his nose. This assassin wanted to know what Pinwheel was (something that was on Ben's resume, but Ben didn't know what it was). After Ben had been threatened out of screaming for help, he told the assassin he didn't know what what Pinwheel was. The assassin didn't believe him and got ready to shoot Ben. However, Ben found the tennis racket that he brought with him to Spy School, and without knowing what he was doing, swung it at the assassin, luckily hitting him. He later ran and called for help. By the time Nathan Hale and the principal arrived the assassin had already ran away, and Ben's room was trashed. So, they decided that Ben should sleep at the Box for some time, a place made to hold criminals.
  • Theme
  • After the assassin encounter, Ben had met up with Erica at the Box. They decided that both of them would keep an eye out for whoever could possibly be the mole. Erica also told Ben that the only reason he was at Spy School, wasn't because he would make a magnificent spy someday, but it was as bait for the mole. For the next couple of weeks, the assassin didn't appear, and the only person that Ben could think of being the mole was Chip. This belief only increased after Ben followed Chip who had mysteriously walked into a shed during a game of paintball capture the flag. Ben decided to follow him and found that Chip was looking at a bomb! As he was spying on Chip, his phone rang and that alerted Chip. Ben made a run for it but wasn't fast enough. So, Chip and Ben got into a huge fight, and that fight was broken up by the principal. Later, Erica got the password into the principal's computer and used it to add something to to Ben's resume. This would alert the assassin and make him attack Ben again. This would also alert the government who would put heavier protection on Ben. The next day, Ben was put into a security center. The guards that were looking at the security system had seen somebody breaking in. So, Alexander Hale brought his men to capture this person. However, when they captured that person, Ben saw that it wasn't the mole, it was his best friend, Mike Brezinski. The mole snuck into the security center and attacked Ben, this time knocking him unconscious and dragging him to their van.
  • HEEELLLLPPPP!!!!!
  • You're coming with me!
  • Erica had suspected that the whole Mike thing was a ruse and kept an eye on the security center instead. Erica was correct, and when the assassin captured Ben, she was ready to go and rescue him. After taking on 2 men, she untied Ben and told him to follow her. Erica took Ben up the Washington Monument to take cover. While they were up there, Erica told Ben that Alexander Hale was a fraud. He didn't do any of the amazing things he said he did, other people did them. Once she saw that the other enemy spies were gone, she told Ben to follow her. She had brought Ben to an ATM kiosk (which was actually the faculty housing) so they could talk to the only person they could trust, a professor from the Spy School, Professor Crandall. Later, after their conversation, the CIA surrounded this ATM kiosk, and they took Ben for questioning. While Ben was waiting in the interrogation room, Erica started to talk to him over an ear piece. Later, Alexander Hale took Ben out of the interrogation room so that he could work on catching the mole. Erica told Ben to run after a girl named Tina who Erica thought (after getting a tip from Chip) was the mole. Ben saw Mike on the sidewalk, and stopped to talk to him. While Ben was talking to mike he heard a "THUD!". That was Erica's body hitting the ground, someone had knocked her out. Mike knew that Ben wasn't telling him the truth and was very upset with Ben. Mike told him it was his fault that he had gotten beat up by the guards because he had gotten a text from Ben saying "Pick me up at 7:30 P.M. sharp.". When Ben saw the time stamp on the text, he knew the mole was Murray. When Ben got to the Spy School, he knew exactly where to go. When he got to the room he saw that Murray was making a bomb and Erica was on the floor. Murray offered Ben a spot at his evil organization, SPYDER, and Ben declined. Erica woke up, disabled the bomb, and started to run after Murray with Ben. Later, Ben catches Murray and Alexander Hale takes the credit.
  • The theme of the book Spy School by: Stuart Gibbs, is it doesn't matter why you're there it just matters what you do there. This is the theme of the book Spy School because when Ben learns that the only reason he is at Spy School is as bait, he is devastated, but has to move on if he wants to catch the mole. This ties along with the theme that good mentality is everything because if Ben were to have sulked and stopped believing in himself, he would of never caught the mole.
