- the monsters are due on maple street theme :fear and suspicion is destructive
- one major theme of "the Monsters are Due on Maple Street" is fear and suspicion can be destructive at times. An example of this is when: everyone starts questoning goodman about his car turning on when everyone elses car wasnt turning on becuase of the fact the power was off . Along with the fact he stays up late at night because of his insomnia which would be normal under regular circumstances but not so much when everyone is on edge because they all believe someone in their neighborhood is a monster from outerspace. They all stay up to watch his house and completly ruined their friendship with him all because of their suspicions of Mr goodman. Another great example of how suspicions can destroy is when all the neightbors started treating steve and his wife more like an anemy than a friend all becuase of his secret project that he clamed was a radio set, and didnt want to show them because he thought he shouldnt have to prove anything to them. So they lost an amazing friendship with Steve and Steve's wife because she defended him, all because of a radio set. The last example of many more that came from this short story is when charlie shot peter his good friend when he saw him walking towards the naightbors and him, and he wanted to protect his family and home. Although he claimed he didnt know it was peter because of how dark it was the trust everyone had for him was forever broken along with their friendship. They all asumed he did this because his trying to hide something and peter was comeing to warn them so they attacked him and his home by throwing rocks at him and his house. all this to say suspicion is very destructive and can ruin long amazing friendships all for nothing sense none of them ended up being the monsters.
