- Coal is a non-renewable source, and wind is a renewable source. A renewable source is a source of energy that can be replenished faster than it is consumed, non-renewable energy is a source that is consumed faster than it can be replenished. Lets learn more about the two,
- Hmm, I need to decide between coal and wind energy. Can you help me figure out which one to choose?
- This is a wind turbine, they produce wind energy!Unlike coal, using wind to generate energy does not produce greenhouse gasses. Wind energy creates jobs and has the potential to support 600,000 in the coming years. Wind energy is pretty cost efficient after the initial cost of installing the wind turbines.Wind can not always be guaranteed, so it can be difficult to estimate how much the wind turbine will generate. One of the biggest downsides of wind energy is the noise and visual pollution. Wind turbines can be noisy when operating. Also because wind turbines need to be built up high enough to capture a good amount of wind, the turbines can often interrupt otherwise scenic landscapes, such as mountain ranges, lakes, and oceans. Birds and flying creatures can also get stuck in the turbine blades.
- This is the coal factory. Coal is burned and turned into energy here. It is a non-renewable resource and is costly when transporting to large scale power plants. When coal is burned it releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere contributing to global warming. The Ozone is also depleted when you burn coal. Normally though, it is inexpensive and clean coal technology is currently being used in a few countries around the world. Also it is very simple to obtain and this helps lift developing and poor countries out of poverty. This place is pretty gross! I think that I'm going to choose wind energy!
