All of the animals gather in the farm to listen to Old Majors speech old major is an old pig who is looked up to. He makes a speech to inspire the other animals on the farm to revolt by introducing Animalism, a way of living without humans controlling them. He also talks about the seven commandments of Animalism. These are very important ruled that they must follow if they revolt. There are two horses who are named Boxer and Clover. Boxer is a massive animal that is the strongest in the farm and Clover is a motherly white horse who takes care of all the animals. Muriel is a white goat, and Benjamin is a donkey who commonly made cryptic remarks about life. The three dogs are called Jessie, Bluebell, and Pincher. The rest of the pigs sit in the front because they are the smartest of the animals. Old Major informs the animals of a song that he heard during his youth called Beasts of England. after he tells them about it they all sing it until Jones, their tyrannical owner shoots his gun at the barn.
"Comrades, we must revolt! Humanity has oppressed us for too long!"
"Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland! Beasts of every land and clime! Hearken to my joyful tidings Of the golden future time!"

Old Major dies, leaving the other animals to think about whether they should revolt and take control of the farm. He also leaves a power vacuum that is filled by a pig named Snowball. Jones then forgets to feed them, causing a revolution. The animals break into a store shed and help themselves to all the food that they need. this causes Jones and his four other men to start whipping the animals. Unexpectedly, the animals actually start to fight back! they leap on their tormenters and led by Snowball, they drive Jones, his family, his raven, and the other farmers out of the gates. Leaving the animals alone to control the farm

After Snowball assumes the position of leader among the animals, another pig called Napoleon tries to do the same. every Sunday they hold meetings and discuss important matters such as education, rations, retirement, etc. However, during these Sunday meetings, they can never agree! Every time one of them says something, the other will disagree. This causes tension to arise as the animals wonder who should lead the animals. Meanwhile, Napoleon takes some puppies to educate them.
"I disagree! We must focus on the youth so that we can have a brighter future!"
